Bhairuji, who is believed to be an
incarnation of lord Shiva is known for his
massive persona and unpredicted nature. Also known as Khetrapal, God Bhairava is
quite caring and protective towards his devotees and followers. Though followers
of God Bhairava are found across the globe, but more oncentration is in the north -
western Rajasthan of India. Kodamdesar Bhairuji temple is around 550 years old and was
established by Rao Bikaji before even the establishment of Bikaner city. It is
situated around 24 KMs from the Bikaner city.
Annual Festival
Each year an annual festival is organised on the 14th day of the month of Bhadrapadh
according to Hindu calendar. This festival is known as annual Kodamdesar fair. On this
day, special puja and Maha-aarti is offered to the idol and a massive fair is organised.
Followers of Bhairuji from over all India come and pay their regards to their deity.
Chaudas
Chaudas or Chaturdashi is the 14th day of each month before poornima or amavasya arrives.
This day has its own significance. On each chaturdashi, special puja is organised.
Maha-Aarti is offered followed by Maha-bhog or Maha-Prasaad which is prepared by the
devotees in the temple premises.
Weekly (Sunday) Puja
Other than chaudas, a comparatively smaller fair is organised each Sunday in the temple
premises. Special sringaar is given to the idol in which Bhairuji is groomed by the priest
followed by a Maha-aarti and Maha-Bhog. Around 200 - 250 devotees come to celebrate this day.
Sawamani
Sawamani is a special puja organised by the devotees when their wishes come true. All friends
and family are invited to offer puja, shringar and bhog to their deity.
Bhairav Ashthami
The 8th lunar day (ashtami) in the fortnight of the waning moon of hindu month Kartik is
celebrated as Bhairava Ashthami. This day is believed to be the birth day of God Bhairava.
Many people visit Kodamdesar to offer Bhairuji their worships.
